Pharrell and Japanese fashion?

I love Pharrell as musician and producer. But he's also involved with fashion in last years. He was named best dressed man of 2005 by Esquire Magazine and in the next year he was invited by Louis Vuitton to design a sunglasses and jewelery line.
So ok... But where Japanese fashion is included?





In 2005 Pharrell launched two lines of clothing, Billionaire Boys and Ice Cream with his partner Nigo (founder of the famous brand "A Bathing Ape"). Since then part of the clothes are produced in Japan following japanese fashion standards. Their first store was opened in Tokyo and it was a great sucess with public.
Nowadays there are two more stores (in New York and Hong Kong) and you can find Billionaire Boys and Ice Cream products at Barney's, Collete and other hight end boutiques around the world.

Japanese Street Fashion

As some of you guys know, I love Japan since I was very young. I really don't know why I started to follow their culture, but it is part of my own background nowadays. I can't wait to visit Shibuya someday!

I'm really into cosplay and visual kei, so I tried to choose other styles of dressing. Usually people think japanese just dress as j-rockers or anime characters and this is not true. It's possible to find many different types of fashion in Japan and we can also check some possible and simple ideas to update our daily style.

Usually they are not afraid of creating creative looks and garments. That courage to dress theirselves really inspires me and I hope it inspires you too. If you can, check their music too. It's great and unique!And in some way, "very fashionable".

Fallen Princess

Everybody knows fairytales from childhood. We grew up around happy endings & happily ever after. But what exactly happens after that? Having this idea in mind, Dina Godstein created a series of photos developing a different idea: She wanted to show us the Princesses in some realist situations.

And that's the result: she transformed all those perfect princesses in normal women, exposed to a lot of problems we need to face nowadays.

The Fun Theory

I'm really into "The Fun Theory". What's that?
It consists in a simple and fun way to change people's mind and behaviour for a better city, country and even world.

Inspiring Istanbul

Traveling is a good way to get some inspiration. Here you can see some pics I took in a trip.

Istanbul is a colorful-romantic-mystic city and it's easy to find good handmade stuff (carpets, painted tiles, embroidered bags) for very satisfatory prices (as the current currency is turkish lira).

Local music it's something you need time to discover for complete as their language and melodies are very different and unique. People are friendly anad they are always prepared to invite you to drink some tea.

I hope this magical place inspires you too!

Uhma: buttons, buttons and buttons

Definitely I love handmade stuff from Portugal. They are always very creative and colorful, it's impossible to not feel hapiness when we see some work like Uhma Handmade.

Made in a little atelier localizated in Leça da Palmeira, these buttons all sewed together are transformed great acessories as rings, necklaces, headbands and also little pieces of art.

Punk Poney

I just discovered Punk Poney, a brazilian brand focused in interesting and non-obvious accessories.

There's embroidered skulls but also very delicated sequin flowers. Does not matter if your style is rocker or romantic, you'll be able at least to wear one of their creations. And attention chameleon girls: just changing a headband you'll be able to give a new perspective to your entire look. It's a cheap, democratic and precious way to stay tuned into fashion.

Luis Carlos Alves and his colorful bags

Today I chose a colorful+eco-friendly mind.

Me and Luis Carlos were classmates some years ago in SENAI, here in São Paulo. I saw his first steps in fashion and also the first bags he created. I had contact with that bags almost everyday because it were a great success around SENAI (and everybody wanted to order one).

It has so many details and it's almost impossible to specify how many different patterns and materials he used in each bag. His idea in simple but in same time very powerful: every material came from other brands garbage. It's almost impossible to believe that all these wonderful materials were in trash, but that's true!

I hope to see more designers working with residual materials, because it's really possible to great many interesting things with them. There's also a big community in Flickr called "Trashionista". If you love sustainable and recycled brands you should check it out!
